No one gets excited about a root canal. And much of that has to do with the undeserved bad reputation of root canal treatments. Back in the day, it was uncomfortable. But modern dentistry has changed all that. Root canals are now quicker and virtually painless. At Hope Dental Care Centre, Drs. Alireza Farkhondeh and Gang Wang are here to explain everything to you and save your tooth so you can get on with your life.
Sometimes it’s obvious you have a problem, but other times the signs are more subtle.
Dentists are the only ones who can tell you if a root canal is needed.
Most root canals are quick. You can expect it to be done in one appointment, but special cases might need two. Both visits take about 60 to 90 minutes. Thanks to modern dental technology, the whole process is much more efficient than it used to be.
The tooth’s location in your mouth makes a difference. Molars in the back have more roots than the teeth in the front, so they naturally take longer to treat. The severity of the infection also plays a part. A more serious infection might need extra attention.
This is the biggest question, and the answer is usually no. With modern local anesthesia, you won’t feel pain during the procedure. Patients say it’s a lot like getting a regular filling. You might have some mild soreness or sensitivity for a few days afterward, but this can be handled with over-the-counter pain medicine.
It’s all about removing the infection and protecting your tooth from future problems.
A root canal procedure saves your tooth by removing the infected pulp. This treatment prevents the infection from spreading and causing an abscess or even tooth loss.
