Gone are the days of crooked teeth and misaligned bites. Today, you can straighten your teeth with Invisalign to achieve a perfectly aligned smile without the discomfort and obtrusiveness of metal braces.
Invisalign Orthodontics in Kanata, Ontario, uses customized, clear, and removable plastic aligners to adjust and straighten teeth. This way, The Hope Dental Care Centre can move your teeth discreetly without anyone noticing.Â
Invisalign treatment is a relatively new orthodontics system, so you may not be well-informed about the procedure. Kanata Dentistry believes in keeping things real—we are always honest about what we do, and we want to keep you informed before any treatment. Here are five things you should know about Invisalign to make an informed decision.
Although Invisalign aligners are removable, you must wear them 20-22 hours daily to achieve your orthodontic goals within the predicted timeline. You should only remove your aligners when eating or cleaning your teeth. This means you should sleep with your aligners on. However, this shouldn’t worry you because your aligners are comfortable and won’t affect your sleep.
Patients wearing metal braces must avoid chewy, sticky, and hard foods as these can become trapped in the metal structure. In contrast, Invisalign allows you to enjoy all your favourite foods without restrictions. Simply remove your aligners during meals and put them back on once you’ve finished eating.
As your mouth gets used to the aligners, you may have trouble pronouncing certain words. However, this only lasts a few days. Once your tongue and other oral structures adjust to the presence of aligners, your natural speech will be restored.
One of the significant benefits of Invisalign is that you don’t have to wait long to see the results. Patients with mild cases can see results within a few months. Although each case is different, Invisalign’s average treatment time is 9-18 months, compared to 20-24 months for traditional braces.
Like your teeth, your aligners need optimal maintenance to remove harmful bacteria and food stains. Brush your aligners and rinse them in clean, warm water (never use hot water). Store your aligners in a dry case when not in use.
