What Are Dental Implants?
One dental implant replaces one missing tooth. The implant is made up of a titanium post that’s surgically placed in your jawbone. It replaces the root of the tooth you lost. After a healing process, a porcelain crown is placed on top.
How Do Dental Implants Work?
After Dr. Far implants the titanium post, you’ll go through a healing process for a few months. During this time, your bone fuses around the post and makes it a part of the bone. This process is called osseointegration. Once this is over, Dr. Far moves to the next step: placing a small abutment and a crown on top to finish off your new tooth.

Left mandibular (lower), the first molar, has been extracted. A bridge was not a viable option, and removable partial denture was not desired by the patient. The tooth was replaced by a titanium implant and crown.

What Is the Dental Implants Process?
Here’s what you can expect when you get a dental implant at The Hope Dental Care Centre:
- Initial appointment: X-rays and a full exam to check gum health and bone density.
- Surgery: Dr. Far implants the titanium post into your jaw. You have the option of oral moderate sedation if you need it.
- Healing: About 3-6 months for the implant to fuse with the jawbone.
- Abutment: A small connector piece attached to the implant post.
- Crown: Custom-made porcelain fitted on top.

When Are Dental Implants for Full Mouth Replacement a Good Option?
If you’re missing several of your teeth or even all of them, full mouth dental implants might be a good option to get you back up and running. Dr. Far can strategically place implants throughout your mouth to support an entire dental arch, rather than replacing each tooth individually.
It’s much more stable than traditional dentures. And you don’t have to worry about slippage when you talk or eat.
Can I Get Dental Implants if I Have Gum Disease?
Your gum disease must be treated before you can get dental implants. Unhealthy gums weaken the bone underneath. And they also increase your risk of an implant failure down the road. At your first appointment, we will check your gum health.
How Long Do Dental Implants Last?
The titanium post will last for decades if you take good care of your teeth and maintain regular hygiene and dental visits. Or a lifetime for many people. The crown on top may eventually need to be replaced. Usually, about 10-15 years after normal wear and tear.

Dr. Alireza Farkhondeh (Dr. Far)
Dr. Alireza Farkhondeh (Dr. Far) received his honors bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario in London, ON, and his DDS degree from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2016. During this time, he participated in research projects in immunology, oral pathology, and oral radiology with publications in the Michigan Dental Association Journal. Dr. Far is a member of the Ontario Dental Association, Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, and American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

Dr. Gang Wang received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and DDS degrees from the University of Toronto in 2011, 2013, and 2017 respectively. He earned over 17 university scholarships and published five academic articles during this period. Both doctors are keen on helping patients as much as possible while educating them throughout the treatment process.
