The Hope Dental Care Centre in Kanata, Ontario, believes in keeping your teeth as healthy as possible. That’s why we offer routine dental exams, cleanings, and other minimally invasive treatments to prevent decay and infections. Early detection of cavities allows us to use conservative treatments like composite fillings to restore your tooth’s function and appearance for years.
Despite our best efforts to keep your teeth healthy, sometimes you may need root canal treatment. Drs. Alireza Farkhondeh and Wang perform root canal therapy when your tooth is severely decayed or damaged, and we don’t want you to lose your tooth to extraction.
Because of tooth decay, faulty dental work, or cracks, harmful bacteria can penetrate the enamel and dentin to reach the innermost part of the tooth (pulp). When an infection reaches the inner layers of the tooth, a tooth filling or crown alone can’t restore your tooth—you need a root canal to remove the infection and restore the tooth.
While only a dentist can determine your need for root canal therapy, talk to your dentist when you experience the symptoms below.
At times, issues requiring a root canal may exhibit little or no symptoms. This underscores the importance of scheduling regular visits with the dentist, as we can identify even the subtlest signs of a tooth infection.
Unlike what you may have heard, many patients report that a root canal treatment is no more painful than a cavity filling! Our office prioritizes your comfort when you need root canal therapy. Before the procedure, we numb your tooth with local anesthesia for a pleasant experience. However, you can talk to our dentists about sedation dentistry if you need additional comfort.
Once you are at ease, we use gentle techniques to treat your tooth. After making a tiny hole in your tooth, we’ll remove the infected tissues and thoroughly clean and sanitize your tooth to remove all traces of harmful bacteria. Next, we’ll file the canals before filling the empty chamber and canals with gutta-percha. The final step is to restore your tooth with a filling/temporary crown as you wait for a permanent crown.
