The dental implant experience: What to expect

If you want to replace your missing tooth (teeth) with dental implants, we’ll first examine your medical history and overall health to ensure your eligibility for dental implants. Ideally, you should be in good health and have sufficient jawbone to support an implant. However, if you have jawbone loss, we recommend bone grafting to replenish lost bone tissue. Similarly, if you want a decayed or damaged tooth replaced, this must be removed first to create space for an implant.

Once done with pre-surgery procedures, we’ll surgically insert a titanium post at a precise location in the jawbone. We carry out the dental implant surgery after numbing your gums, but you can opt for sedation dentistry for added comfort. Before you go, we’ll place a healing cap on the implant site to guide the gums as they heal. 

After surgery, we’ll leave your implant for about 4-6 months to allow for healing. During recovery, bone cells fuse with the titanium post through osseointegration to form one biological structure. 

After healing, we’ll place an abutment as the base to anchor your replacement tooth. The healing time for this procedure is about two weeks because no fusion is required. Once your abutment is set, we attach a natural-looking crown or denture to restore your tooth. The result is a new tooth or teeth that feel, look, and function naturally in every way.

• Full-mouth dental implants: Want to replace a complete set of teeth? You can opt for a single implant for every tooth lost, but this route is expensive and invasive. In such cases, we can use All-on-X dental implants to replace teeth in an entire arch. This solution uses 4 or 6 implants per arch strategically placed in the mouth. Then, we’ll attach a natural-looking denture or bridge on the implants to replace your missing teeth.
